Ikat Obsession

I found a new obsession today. Ikat.

Know what that is? I wasn’t even sure how to pronounce it, so I looked it up today and according to Dictionary.reference.com:

i-kat [ee-kaht]

–noun

1. a method of printing woven fabric by tie-dyeing the warp yarns (warp ikat), the weft yarns (weft ikat), or both (double ikat) before weaving.

2. a fabric made by this method.

Still confused? It’s this:

KALAH BLUE

or this:

I. AM. OBSESSED.

The strange thing is when I started seeing this stuff, I hated it. I didn’t get it. Why were people wearing it? Confused.

Now, I love it. There are so many cute ideas what to do with it: lamps, wallets, shorts….I’d love to make some curtains or cover chairs…not sure which. Here are some more images of ikat in case you need some more inspiration for your own obsession.

ikat chairs-super cute!

ikat pillows? yes please!

ikat pendant lamp shade

ikat pendant lamp- of course!

ikat table? mmmm not so much.
